The Pets by Bragi Ólafsson6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() Emil elects to stay under the bed, hoping they’ll all go…. ![]() What he doesn’t bargain for is Harvard climbing in through the open window to wait for him, and then when various other friends and acquantances turn up, Harvard invites them all in and entertains them with Emil’s record collection and drinks cupboard. When Harvard turns up, Emil hides under the bed rather than let him in. When it did though, it became the stuff of pure farce which you could easily imagine on stage.Įmil returns home from a trip abroad to find that Harvard, a certifiable lunatic he shared a house in London with for a while a few years ago is looking for him. This contemporary novel by Bragi Olafsson (formerly in the Sugarcubes with Björk) was much less oblique, but despite its relative brevity took some time to get going. ![]() Last year I read some Halldor Laxness, and found the Icelandic humour distinctly hard to get. ![]()

I was concerned I wouldn’t like Anthony when I realized he would be courting Kate’s sister, but being allowed into this thoughts made it all the better as I could see what his real feelings were. I couldn’t get enough of this couple and by the time the paille-maille game concluded, I was rolling with laughter and absolutely in love with Kate. I love a good enemies-to-lovers story and this one was wonderful. There was quite the sizzle and spark between Anthony and Kate as they battled each other. However, it still beats so many other books that I have listened/read and loved in the past. Among the keepers I couldn’t part with when it was time to Thin the Collection of Dusty Romances Prior to Moving were most of my Julia Quinn novels, and many of the Nora Roberts’. I found this story to be almost, but not quite, as good as the first book. ![]() I experienced the same in the previous audio and once again found myself so absorbed, I chose to listen to this long after the time I usually turn it off.
